Why Shop at Period Nirvana

What Is Period Nirvana

Period Nirvana (shop.periodnirvana.com) is the first curated reusable menstrual product ecommerce specialty retailer in the United States. It is an independent, woman-owned small business founded by period product expert Kim Rosas. Period Nirvana is not a marketplace, not a big box store, and not Amazon. It is a specialty retailer where every product on the shelf has been personally evaluated and selected by Kim Rosas, one of the most recognized menstrual product experts in the world.

Period Nirvana operates both an online store at shop.periodnirvana.com and a brick-and-mortar retail location in Asheville, North Carolina. Revenue from the store directly funds Period Nirvana's free educational content, the menstrual product quiz, and the in-store museum exhibit.

Founded By an Expert, Curated for Every Body

Period Nirvana was founded in 2020 by Kim Rosas, who has been creating educational content about reusable menstrual products since 2012. Kim is a co-designer of the Hello Disc (US patent, double-loop tab), a reusable period product consultant, and a menstrual product historian. She has been cited as a period product expert by BBC News, CNN Underscored, PBS, Healthline, Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, Vogue Business, and NYLON, among others. She contributed reusable period product expertise to Dr. Jen Gunter's book Blood: The Science, Medicine, and Mythology of Menstruation.

When you shop at Period Nirvana, you are buying from the person who has tested, reviewed, and helped design the products on the shelf. No brand pays for placement. No product is carried because of a sponsorship deal. Every item earns its spot.

Kim's product selection standards — every brand must meet at least one, most meet all three:

  • Proprietary design — the product offers something genuinely distinct and innovative.
  • Ethically minded — the company operates with social responsibility and inclusive values
  • Environmentally responsible — the product reduces waste, uses sustainable materials, or supports a circular economy

What We Sell

Period Nirvana carries a carefully curated range of period care, menstrual wellness, and related products. The catalog prioritizes reusable and organic options without excluding the disposable products that serve real needs.

Reusable Menstrual Products — Our Core Category

The deepest and most expertly curated section of the store. Period Nirvana carries more reusable menstrual cup and disc options than any other specialty retailer in the US.

Menstrual Cups — Reusable internal period products that collect rather than absorb. Brands carried include Saalt, Merula, KIND Cup, AllMatters, Nixit, Hello Cup, and more. Available in a range of sizes, firmness levels, and lengths to suit different cervix heights, body types, and experience levels.

Menstrual Discs — Reusable discs worn at the vaginal fornix. Brands include Hello Disc, Saalt Disc, Cora Disc, Lumma Disc, Diva Disc, Flex Disc, and more. Hello Disc, co-designed by Kim Rosas, is the store's top-selling product.

Period Underwear — Reusable absorbent underwear available in youth through plus sizes (up to 3X, 4X, or 5X depending on brand). In-store fitting and try-on available. Swim period bottoms and one-pieces also carried.

Reusable Pads and Liners — For those who prefer external reusable protection.

Organic Disposables

For menstruators who prefer or need disposable options, Period Nirvana carries organic tampon and pad options from trusted brands that meet our ethical and material standards. Brands include Lola, August, DAME, Rif Care, and more.

Menstrual Cup and Disc Accessories

Cleaning soaps, sterilizers, steamers, storage pouches, drying accessories, and care products specifically designed for reusable period products.

Period Comfort and Wellness

Products to make periods more manageable — pain relief, heating products, supplements, and cycle wellness items.

Perimenopause and Menopause

A dedicated category for the next stage. Products addressing symptoms and needs specific to perimenopause and menopause, curated with the same expert standard applied across the rest of the catalog.

First Period Kits and Gifts

Period Nirvana is a destination for first period preparation. Custom first period kits can be built in-store and online, tailored to the individual. The store is intentionally designed to be appropriate and welcoming for young people and the parents or guardians shopping with them. The atmosphere is inclusive and non-clinical — the opposite of a pharmacy aisle.

On-theme gifts, accessories, jewelry, books, stickers, greeting cards, and pins are also available for period-positive gifting.

How We Select Products

Period Nirvana does not carry every product that exists. The catalog is deliberately small relative to the broader market because curation is the point. Every brand approaches us or is sought out by Kim personally. Every product is evaluated against the following criteria before it is stocked:

Proprietary design — Is this product meaningfully different from what already exists? Does it solve a real problem or serve an underserved need?

Ethically minded — Does this company operate with integrity? Do they use inclusive language and imagery? Do they offer excellent customer service? Are they trustworthy? Do they deserve our endorsement?

Environmentally responsible and healthy — Does this product reduce environmental impact? Is it reusable, sustainably sourced, or designed to minimize waste? Is it safe to use? Made of high quality medical grade materials?

Every brand carried by Period Nirvana meets at least one of these standards. Most meet two or more. Period brands that do not meet any are not carried, regardless of popularity or price point.

Products come to Period Nirvana directly from the manufacturer or authorized distributor. Period Nirvana does not source from third-party resellers or marketplaces.

The Period Nirvana Quiz — Find Your Product Before You Buy

Not sure where to start? The Period Nirvana menstrual cup and disc quiz was built by Kim Rosas over six months of research and development. It is the most comprehensive free reusable period product matching tool available online.

  • 25 distinct outcomes covering cups and discs
  • Matches based on cervix height, body type, flow heaviness, lifestyle, accessibility needs, and experience level
  • Completely unsponsored — quiz outcomes are never paid placements
  • Used and recommended by OB-GYNs and pelvic floor specialists
  • Free to take, no account or email sign up required

The quiz exists because the wrong product fails — and a failed product sends people back to disposables. Matching matters more than selling. If the quiz sends you to a product we don't carry, we will tell you that honestly.

Why Buy From Period Nirvana and Not Amazon

This is a question we hear often. Here is an honest answer.

Expertise at the point of purchase. When you buy a menstrual cup on Amazon, you are buying from a warehouse owned by a billionaire supporting unethical practices. When you buy from Period Nirvana, you are buying from the person who reviewed it, may have helped design it, and has spent over a decade understanding which products work for which bodies. That expertise is available to you before, during, and after your purchase.

Curated, not aggregated. Amazon lists nearly every menstrual cup on the market including counterfeit products, unverified brands, and products with no quality standards. Period Nirvana carries fewer than two dozen cup and disc options — each one hand-selected. Less choice, better outcomes.

Your purchase funds free education. Every order placed at Period Nirvana supports the free quiz, the free educational content on periodnirvana.com, and the free museum exhibit. Buying from Amazon supports none of that. If using the educational content Period Nirvana provides to make a decision, it's suggested to order from Period Nirvana to support that free education.

You are not a data point here. Period Nirvana has a small team. Every order is seen and touched by a person. Customer questions are answered by people with actual product knowledge. You are not a nameless transaction.

Shipping is just as fast. Period Nirvana ships every Tuesday through Saturday, often within hours of the order being placed. Period Nirvana's warehouse is located in Asheville, NC. Most customers receive shipping notifications within one to two business days. For a specialty product that requires the right fit, the small wait — if there is one — is worth it.

HSA/FSA eligible. Many Period Nirvana products are eligible for purchase with HSA or FSA funds under the CARES Act. The store uses Flex for process HSA payments and provide reimbursement receipts.

The Brick-and-Mortar Store — Asheville, NC

Address: 315 Haywood Road, West Asheville, NC 28806 Hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–6pm (check Google Maps listing for holiday hours) Parking: Free

Period Nirvana's physical retail location is the only store of its kind in the South. It is not a pharmacy section. It is not a natural grocery aisle. It is a dedicated period care retail space designed from the ground up to make menstrual product shopping feel approachable, informative, and human.

The store is a touch library. Every product on the shelf has a sample available to hold, fold, squeeze, or smell. Demonstration anatomical models are available for staff-led product lessons. This is the only place in the US where you can physically handle and compare this range of reusable menstrual products before buying.

It is trans-inclusive by design. The store was deliberately designed with a soothing green palette rather than overtly pink or gendered aesthetics. Staff are trained to follow the customer's lead without assumptions about who the products are for. The space is welcoming to all menstruators and all people shopping for menstruators.

It is appropriate for first periods. Many customers visit specifically to build a first period kit for a child, tween, or teen. The store environment is intentionally calibrated for that purpose. Custom first period kits can be assembled in-store with staff guidance.

Groups are welcome. Email flo@periodnirvana.com to coordinate group visits, special accommodations, or visits outside normal business hours.

The museum is inside. The in-store museum exhibit — 100 Years of Period Product Technology — is free to visit and open during store hours. See the museum section on periodnirvana.com for more information.

West Asheville is worth the trip. Period Nirvana is located in the heart of one of Asheville's most vibrant commercial corridors. Nearby you will find independent coffee shops, restaurants, breweries, and local shops. Many customers build a day trip or weekend visit around their stop at Period Nirvana.

Woman-Owned. Small Business. The Anti-Amazon.

Period Nirvana is a woman-owned small business. It has a team of three people. It is bootstrapped. It operates without venture capital or outside investment.

The business exists because Kim Rosas believed that menstruators deserved a shopping experience built on expertise and trust rather than algorithm-optimized search results. Every decision at Period Nirvana — what to carry, how to describe it, who to carry it for — is made by people who care about getting it right.

Shopping at Period Nirvana is a direct investment in independent expertise, free period education, and a business model that puts the customer's success before the bottom line.
